Fashion is becoming more sustainable every year: it is demonstrated by events such as the Green Carpet organized by ECOAGE, the collections obtained with recycled fabrics proposed by H&M or Stella McCartney and the growing of organizations like Fashion Revolution whose commitment is to make the world more aware of the disasters and waste that are typical of the fashion world, fighting at the same time to convince the highest number of brands to make eco-friendly choices.
Another important voice that has become a part of the chorus of those who shout loudly how much we need a radical change, is the one of Reformation, a famous clothing brand founded by Yael Aflalo. A brand that has become a reference point for whoever is looking for feminine, cured details and sexy pieces, characterized by simple lines and above all, realized in a sustainable way. To demonstrate its constant commitment and improvement, the brand publishes every 3 months its own Sustainability Report that everyone can read to get an idea of the numbers and how much it is important to continue to insist for a higher awareness.
The last Sustainability Report (July-September 2017) shows that Reformation, compared to the rest of the clothes bought in the US, has saved 53% of waste, 71% of water and 42% of the carbon dioxide, thanks to the use of eco-sustainable materials and alternative energies. On top of that, besides publishing the Sustainability Report, Reformation invests in certain programs (such as reforestation or cleaning of water) to replace the resources used.
But how can people join this Re-volution? If you are in LA, for example, you can do a tour of the factory to see with your own eyes how much the people who work there care about this subject; Or, if you prefer to stay comfortably at home, you can buy jeans from their latest Ref jeans line; the differences from a “normal” pair of Jeans? One Ref jeans are manufactured by saving on average 1468 gallons of water, wasting less material and producing 20/30% less CO2. Also, for every pair purchased, the brand is committed to clean 1000 gallons of water in California.
In the upcoming months, Reformation intends to complete the construction of a solar rooftop on its factory in order to use 100% renewable energy, to involve their employees in workshops to learn some strategies to be even more sustainable and introduce the use of new eco-friendly materials. Being fashionable has never been as sustainable as it is now: Furthermore, a garment produced is this way has the power to open the eyes of the people who wear it.
Join the revolution!
