“I think it’s not important if you think inside or outside the box, until the box is well designed.”
This is the motto of Silvia Cantù, Art Director and Graphic Designer from Milan who told us about her passion for design and for comfortable but authentic looks, always looking for new stimuli able to shape her work and her idea of style.
Nice to Meet You, I Am: Silvia Cantù, a freelance Art Director and Graphic Designer graduated in Fashion Design. I’m from Milan, a city that I love but that’s not enough. I have always traveled a lot and whenever I can, I fly away. This attitude has probably led me to work with brands and people from all over the world: London, Sydney, Los Angeles, Toronto… I am always looking for new stimuli, whether it is for work or style.
Location: Milan.

Trend: Efficient, authentic and cool. I’m a freelancer and my house is my office. It’s useless to say that comfortable clothes are my uniform. When you spend a lot of time wearing comfortable looks it becomes intolerable to wear something that is uncomfortable, impractical and too challenging. I love speed, efficiency. The outfit must be an ally during my day, not an obstacle.
#Inspo: Definitely design and graphics. It seems obvious but it is my whole world, it is a professional deformation. My style evolves with my creativity. I spend most of the time doing research for my work, and this obviously influences my taste.
“The outfit must be an ally during my day, not an obstacle.”
The Touch of Style: I love to play with shades and textures, just like I do with my graphics. The idea is to keep clean lines while making them interesting with contrasts and nuances that create the perfect palette.
How I Like to Wear It: I love the non-spectral colors and neutral shades. My closet is a palette of blacks, grays, whites and naked colors, plus some denim pieces. I dare a little more with the accessories. Not many jewels but with an interesting design. Just a touch of makeup or almost nothing.

Trendspotting: One of the queens of this style is definitely Gwyneth Paltrow. Even Eva Chen is among my favorites, her style represents the concept of efficient, authentic and cool. And then I love female entrepreneurs: in 2019 the outfit is no longer synonymous with “proving,” but it becomes a natural extension of self-awareness.
Your Favorite Fashion Book: Probably “IT” by Alexa Chung. Fast, auto-ironic. Two fundamental features for me. The cover then is beautiful, totally Instagram friendly.

Steal Style: My style icons are many and they are girls that I see every day on the street or on Instagram. Not to mention all the wonderful women with whom I have the luck to work with and that comes from many different places in the world (thank you Internet!). On Instagram, I follow and love Vanessa Hong di @thehautepursuit, Sara Crampton di @harperandharley, Brooke Testoni e Beck Wadworth, fondatrice di @anorganisedlife.
Your Fashion Superpower: Never feeling the necessity to justify my stylistic choices. I can go out with my pajamas and fur (faux!) without feeling ashamed. The attitude is important.
