Zadrian Smith, International Fashion Director and Stylist who worked with celebrities such as Logan Browning, Jessie J, Skai Jackson, Naomi Scott and Lady Amelia Windsor, told us to not underestimate the importance of accessories, especially of quality shoes and bags!
Nice to meet you, I am: Zadrian Smith, Founder and Editor in Chief of PETRIe and International Fashion Director for Celebrities.
Location: I’m a global nomad, spending time in Los Angeles, New York City, and London.
Trend: I’m not sure if this is a trend or more so sartorial guidance but – creating an authentic style for oneself. I’ve always advised my clients and friends who ask for fashion advice, that the best thing you can invest in each season is a great, quality shoe and bag. If you do this, then you transcend trends and always manage to stay relevant with fashion, whilst not becoming a fashion victim. I’ve never really been one to follow trends.
#Inspo: Never doubt the power of accessories! Some of the most lucrative fashion houses in the world, like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Hèrmes, have all built their businesses on the foundation of accessories like shoes, bags, fragrance, etc. These items although at the luxury level are still very aspirational, yet attainable. I think this is what I like most about this aspect of the fashion industry. Less expensive pieces like a key bag or shoe from a season give consumers the opportunity to participate in the conundrum of contemporary fashion.
Styling Tip: I always say, be extravagant, go over the top with a great shoe and an even more amazing bag. Then you pull everything else back and pair it with classic jeans, a Sunspel t-shirt or Wolford body and a classic blazer.
My Favorite Way To Wear It: Saint Laurent Chelsea Boots, Levi’s black denim, white V-neck t-shirts with a triptych of necklaces on my neck and bracelets on my wrist.
“Go over the top with a great shoe and an even more amazing bag.”
Trend Spotting: Pharrell, my inspiration for male fashion.
Your Favorite Fashion Book: “The Definitive History of Costume and Style,” Inc. Dorling Kindersley.
Steal Style: A hybrid version of Nina Simone and Louis XIV of France.
Your Fashion Superpower: I think my fashion superpower is my encyclopedic knowledge of the fashion industry. It’s by being well-researched and well-informed that you are able to create new and interesting ideas.
