The Italian Rêve – Wanderlust Makeup: We Are Born To Run

Traveling. If you check the word in the Oxford dictionary, it says: “Make a journey, typically of some length.” It should probably be saying also “thing all humans do in Summer, driven by a strange, magical, socially established rule that, if the sun decides to be out and about, so should we.”
The trick here is that you don’t need to move to start a journey.

Daydreaming about running away is something we humans do well; often enough, a winter of responsibilities, work and routine make us feel caged. So, we start to travel with our mind, while expectations rise, preparing ourselves for the future travels – the ones that, right after spring, will bring us somewhere far, far away. So, we become mind-walkers, wandering through forests, looking at the skyline during sunset, while a moment before we were on an island, on a whitewashed balcony, with the sea right in front of us. We’re on a plane or with our feet on the dash of a rental car, trying to figure out how a map works because “it’s no fun following Google anyway.”

Whether you’re going on a road trip, or adventurous quest, or maybe you have in mind a new city to discover or next-level-of-relaxing vacation, we have learned to not fret about our makeup. Do we need to puzzle half of the bathroom in our luggage? That would be painful. Instead, all we need is just one trusted companion.  

Who says that we need so much when all we are really looking for is one single palette that allows us to be prepared for every encounter we will make on the road? Because we want to embrace that definition of traveling, to forget the destination and enjoy the ride.

After all, we were born to run.

Wonder is part of a journey.
It’s true, you can find it everywhere, but there’s no place like a museum to breathe in the centuries. Step after step through the silent hallways, we stop running and take a moment to see, and learn. 

Be Inspired

For an artistic kick, we created a futuristic eyeliner, with dots and lines and colors, because the eyes are nothing but a work of art. We created the line, making it slightly smudged for a more “messy” effect, with Jet.
Then, we defined the inner corner of the eye with a small dot with the purple Guilt Trip. Three dots, like steps, were then made with Hell Ride, the burnt orange Baja and the peachy Still Shot.

#NATURE  

Delicate as a flower, the summer breeze is fragrant with all the perfumes of meadows of green and high, golden wheat fields, or with the polished beauty of city gardens. To create an eye that reminds people of a garden washed in golden light, we used the green shades on the palette.

We used Big Sky all over the upper lid, deepening it on the outer corners with the forest-green Wanderlust. To recreate the sun, we used the shimmery Stranded mixed with the coppery bronze Smog and then dramatized the lower lid with Double Fire. To add a “kick” to the eye, we used Jet as an eye pencil on the lower and upper lash line.

And, since we love nature, our green thumb turns into a green lid.

#DESERT

Who’s dreaming about the cozy fire of sunbathed shores, or about an adventure in the dusty desert? Summer also means hot weather, lots of reddish and warm shades glimmering all around: from the hair that turn into a lighter shade because of the sun rays to the reflections of the sun on oceans of dunes.

We started by washing the lid with a veil of peachy Still Shot, and we warmed it up with Accelerate, bringing it up to the temple, creating a flick on the outer corner of the eye and a smudged, all-over effect on the inner edge. 
Under the eye, a soft line of the metallic rust Double Life enhances the shape of the eye, making the gaze just like the sun: you can’t stare at it much, or you’ll get burned.

#WATER

The tide brings in something audacious and modern, for an aqua-blue eye look that matches perfectly the typical day on the beach, but that could also bring the water to you when you’re feeling too far from it.  

Where but the sea?

We evened the lid with the matte Weekender; then we splashed the shimmery Stranded to add light to the inner corner of the eye. Ignite, the metallic rose gold shade, helped with depth, making the gaze impossible to resist.  For the waves at the outer corners of the eyes, we used the deep emerald Radio, drawing thick tails that start from the middle of the lid.
