An Ethiopian princess, her journey through nature, inspiration, and simplicity that drives her all the way to a small island in Sardinia.
It almost sounds like a legend, the one told through the latest collection by Antonio Marras, but it still has an eye for reality and the age we’re living in. It stands as the proof that fashion, besides not being necessarily just for few, cannot be cut out from reality either; it can’t stand alone nor far from what surrounds the designer, a man who lives his time from which he can’t but draw sensations and inspirations.
An Ancient Legend…
…A Princess Far From Home…
…The Reality of Today…
The makeup that accompanies the journey for the S/S 2019 collection by Antonio Marras was conceived for Mac Cosmetics by Yves Saint Laurent’s Global Beauty Director Tom Pecheux, and it merges the models in the sunny universe and the intense colors of a Safari. A stroll under the sun, a journey where light is captured by copperish pigments, slightly shimmery, playful and lively against a perfect base.

Tom creates an idea of makeup that remains natural but yet structured: it is no longer a makeup that leaves the skin raw, exasperating the concept of “less is more” to a sort of fear of the product itself. Instead, it plays on the concept of balance between simplicity and product. The trace of the makeup artist’s hand is visible, but with a sense of freshness that makes the makeup not fake: a makeup that doesn’t hide, but awakens the best form of the skin.
Everything is perfect, but not exaggerated, and very lively.
“…A makeup that doesn’t hide, but awakens the best form of the skin.”
So the Studio Waterwreight Concealer covers imperfections.
On the other hand, the color on the eyelids is made even by a mix of three colors of the New Studio Conceal correctors and with the shade Extra Deep of the “Correct and Conceal” palette to maximize the brilliance of copper. Everything is made to leave the face in its most polished form, like a blank canvas on which are painted the traces of a Safari, a walk under the sun and in harmony with nature.

The faces of the models are a blaze of warm colors, and coppery tones further warmed up with a light touch of bronze shimmer on the eyelids and matte lipstick. The adventurous woman by Marras wears a makeup that is not overly conceptual, but it’s just lit by the right touch of color which can be easily worn even in a more everyday context without being intimidating.
Because the idea is not to be intimidating – first of all not for ourselves, but also for those, who look at the makeup and focus only on its complexity – but to be fun. A light sense of pleasure, conveyed mainly thanks to the bright and comfortable textures and to the nuances, which look almost smudged and that transform makeup into a pleasant moment, made of laughter and not of obligations. Makeup for a woman who wants to show herself through it.
It is not about hiding or changing, it is, instead, all about playing with products, experimenting, discovering yourself in a new adventurous and fearless person, who is not afraid to dare a little bit but who, at the same time, doesn’t want to hide or transform completely.

And this lightness, this playfulness, is also discovered in the movements of the brush that blends the eyeshadow, adding that touch of sunkissed blush to the face.
The repeated swirling movement, which transforms the brush into a magic wand, blurs the colors on the entire eyelid but, at the same time, fully transmits the pleasure of makeup. It transforms the makeup, sometimes more similar to a duty, into fun, and creates soft and smudged lines, avoiding an effect that might be too artificial.
