She’s beautiful, talented, young and her humanitarian commitment is already widely recognized and admired: Emma Watson has managed to leave behind the role of Hermione Grenger and step into the shoes of an activist, especially in defense of women and environmental rights; what better time than a press tour to show the world how much she cares about these issues?
In the new Disney’s live-action movie she plays Belle, the heroine of “Beauty and The Beast” whose yellow dress have made dream for generations all little girls around the world; but Emma Watson decided to dare even more during the several press conferences, showing off clothes that not only were beautiful, but especially obtained in respect of the environment and of workers in the fashion industry: she and her designers have sent a power point to various designers saying that they would took into consideration only the outfits that respected those conditions!
Then they published the letters of the various brands that created her outfits (including jewelry) which proved how the proposals fulfilled what they asked. The actress is also a pioneer of the Eco-Age Organization (founded by Livia Firth), that delivers this message of respect throughout several initiatives and that wants to communicate the idea of sustainable fashion, even on the most important red carpets, and that tested all the information provided by designers. The result was a colorful, chic, elegant but above all, respectful press tour.
PARIS – OSCAR DE LA RENTA
At the preview of the film in France, the actress chose a sleeveless corsette and a pair of trousers by Oscar de la Renta with a narrow orange band around the waste: all the materials were organic.
She chose another beautiful dress by Oscar de la Renta in a second occasion, with a rose on the side, symbol of the maison (and of Belle too).
PARIS – LOUIS VUITTON
Day of interviews, lectures and photo shoots. Emma Watson participated with a dress by Louis Vuitton, made with recycled polyester NewLife, made from plastic bottles, to reduce in this way the waste of energy and the CO2 emissions.
LONDON – CARMEN MARCH
During the press day Emma Watson chose to wear a white bustier and black trousers by Carmen March (she used an outfit of the same brand also during the press day in Shanghai), an independent secondary brand. The jewelry used were organic and completely handmade.
LONDON – EMILIA WICKSTEAD
The gown of this dress was created by an all-female team in the London atelier of the designer, using end-of-line fabric pieces that most of the time are destroyed.
SHANGHAI – ELIE SAAB
In Shanghai Emma Watson wore the most princely of all dresses, created by Elie Saab with 15meters of tulle (completed with a translucent cape as the dress) and decorated with embroideries and precious gems; plus the materials were all organic and recycled.
LONDON – PHILIP LIM
For the final press day in London the actress picked an outfit of Philip Lim, made from responsibly-sourced viscose and with biodegradable materials. Earrings were handcrafted in Cape Town using off-cuts or overruns pieces.
LOS ANGELES – OSCAR DE LA RENTA
During an interview, the actress wore a white dress with black bow-shaped shoulder by Oscar de la Renta: hand-made while using solar energy without involving chemical elements. She then changed and opted for a Mainline Basics black t-shirt and trousers. The whole outfit was made with organic cotton.
THE ICONIC DRESS OF BELLE
A dress similar to the iconic one worn by Belle during the famous scene of the ball could have not be missing, one of the most famous of the history of cinema too: the Maison Dior created it with certified organic silk.
