1) GUCCI SS16:
The creative director Alessandro Michele teamed up with photographer Glen Luchford for a third consecutive season. Shot in Berlin at the notorious Bahnhof Zoo station and on the rooftop of the Maritim Hotel, the resulting video represents a collective of bohemian and colorful guys joyously fleeing the local police with color explosions. There are clear references to Uli Edel’s controversial 1981 film Christiane F.
2) DOLCE&GABBANA: DOLCE ROSA EXCELSA
To celebrate the launch of its newest scent, the iconic Italian brand united three titans of Italian cinema for the fashion short movie: director Giuseppe Tornatore, composer Ennio Morricone and actress Sophia Loren. The film centres around a matriarch, played by Loren, as she directs the restoration of a sprawling Sicilian estate, Villa Valguarnera di Bagheria near Palermo. Scenes of Loren, rolling up her sleeves and cheerfully playing chief builder, bring a lighthearted sense of humour to the film.
3) ADIDAS: YOUR FUTURE IS NOT MINE
With a clear message of individuality and empowerment, this fashion short film by Adidas, directed by Terence Neale, follows some of today’s most influential pop culture figures, artists and content creators such as stylist-entrepreneur Luka Sabbat (named the Internet’s coolest teenager) and basketball player Iman Shumpert.
4) SLEEPOVER PARTY IN CHANEL
The Plaza hotel is the perfect setting for a sleepover party…well, at least for them, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid exchange dresses from the Spring 2016 Chanel haute couture in a video shot by Cass Bird for American Vogue. The two social media celebrities dance in lace, ribbon and tulle dresses giving a touch of lightness to the French luxury brand.
5) THE NEVER ENDING STORY by LOUIS VUITTON
The short movie runs through five generations of the luggage brand’s history in just about 90 seconds. Its colors, forms and shapes are a perfect match to the creative philosophy of the short movie’s art director, Wes Anderson. Just think about The Grand Budapest Hotel!
6) DIOR SS16
This fashion short movie stars Roos Abels, Maartje Verhoef, Sofia Mechetner and Grace Hartzel; all styled by Carine Roitfeld, editor-in-chief of CR Fashion Book. Director Gordon Von Steiner goes simple…but not too much, with a ballroom’s corner as a set he combines the 4 models in different ways and angulations. The result? A poetry of dresses.
7) ZARA WOMAN SS16
Gordon von Steiner again! This seems to be his big year. In this fashion short movie it seems like Gordon has combined his shooting style with a dose of Emmanuel Lubezki’s vision of world (3 years in a row Oscar-winner cinematographer of “The Revenant”, “Birdman” and “Gravity”). For us this is simply stunning and there is something about it that makes you feel nostalgic and tranquil both at the same time.
8) IVI PARK
To promote Ivy Park new capsule collection of athletic wear, the superstar Beyoncé shot a campaign that’s a love letter to the fierce beauty of breaking a sweat. In it, she talks dramatically about her love of parks, how she visits them before performing, conquering the world and even giving birth: “The park is what made me who I am”.
9) VALENTINO SS 2016
The latest spring Valentino fashion show curated by the creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli proved that fashion can transport you somewhere else, visually and emotionally. The collection is inspired by African tribal motifs and the campaign was filmed by Steve McCurry, one of the greatest photographer of our time that became famous with the picture “Afghan Girl” published on the cover of National Geographic. His knowledge of cultures from all around the world and especially of African culture made this fashion short movie really special.
10) THE SPIRIT OF TRAVEL BY LOUIS VUITTON:
The latest “Spirit of Travel” short movie sees actresses Michelle Williams and Alicia Vikander traveling to a joint destination: their destiny. These effortless beauties, the song, the location, and yet another time Gordon Von Steiner direction, made this fashion short movie a real pearl.
“The Twist” by Louis Vuitton deserves to be mentioned as well, a very fresh and funny fashion short movie!
