AVAVAV FW25: Escape and Return to Earth

“Pulvis et umbra sumus,” but for AVAVAV, it would be more fitting to say, “Pulvis et terra sumus”: in an almost visceral ceremony, the collection literally emerges from underground, revealing new frontiers of wonder and giving these zombies a dark and subversive allure. Only to return to the underworld in a cycle of life that feels more like a memento mori: the call of the earth is inescapable.

Moodboard

For the new collection, titled The Hole, designer Beate Karlsson dresses the models as if they were zombies — disheveled but, as always, thoughtfully styled. Edgy layering and contrasts between colors and materials remain central, as do the accessories, once again created in collaboration with Adidas. Dusty and distressed, the clothes still retain their charm, oscillating between sporty and bon-ton vibes: a true grunge ceremony unfolds before our eyes.

Our Favorite Looks

The combination of elements is once again the brand’s strong suit: structured blazers meet cargo pants, high school sports star uniforms give way to corpse brides, while sheer skirts pair with form-fitting, handmade tops. Oversized and mini silhouettes play with contrasts, as do the color combinations, ranging from black to white, with shades of gray, light blue, and red in between. The desire to experiment is palpable — and loud.

Details

Handbags by Adidas, fishnet stockings, bows, oversized hoodies and scarves, transparent details, soft fabrics, ties, alien-inspired sunglasses, goalkeeper gloves, a sporty mood, skeletal hands, comfy pants, and chunky footwear with football-style socks. The devil is in the details — and, apparently, underground.

Beauty

The runway makeup look, curated by MAC Cosmetics, also draws inspiration from the concept of rebirth — both from the past and from suffering — to explore new limits and possibilities. In a collection steeped in morbid tones, the key products could only be the new MAC Nudes shades, including standout colors like Cool Spice and Fleshpot, along with the Nude Board eyeshadow palette. Earth is everywhere: on the face, in the smoky eyes, on the pale lips. The tones are dark, softened by loose, almost messy hairstyles — ready for the dawn of the day after.
