Not all memories are beautiful, but for Giuliano Calza, they are certainly all important: GCDS‘s FW24 reminds us that fun (albeit interpreted) has no age, and fashion can be the perfect tool to live an eternal childhood. Perhaps Peter Pan was right: why rush to grow up?

Moodboard
The beauty of GCDS is its unpredictability: you never know where it will take you, but you know that, in any case, it will be a beautiful journey. Here, the journey is filled with references to pop culture: there’s Hello Kitty, the world of dolls with Polly Pocket, but also horror with Dracula and Chucky, reminding us of the thrill of those first horror movies watched with half-closed eyes. Surprise, dramatic elements, nostalgia, and irreverence are true protagonists in GCDS’s world, where the idea of playing becomes liberating.

Our favorite looks
It all starts with purity, the childlike innocence of white, which takes on new variations here: see-through elements, oversized suits, padded shoulders, mini skirts, leather jackets, and sensual dresses. The “baby” you read on one of the dresses has now grown up and is aware of itself and its strength. Hoodies, T-shirts, ruffled socks, culottes, bralettes, blazers, cozy fits, and exaggerated volumes are all present, in a palette that, after white, almost abruptly transitions to vampire red and black. Being fashionable is literally child’s play at any age!

Details
Veils, clutches alternating with practical oversized patent leather handbags, raised flowers pinned to jacket/bomber lapels, shoes with a bite instead of a heel, knee-high boots, Hello Kitty bralettes, transparent gloves, and an abundance of leather, sequins, faux fur, lurex, and slips. Accessories also become fun, smart, and bold.

Beauty
The contrast between more angelic and childlike looks with others more “rebellious” and dramatic is also evident in the hairstyling, done by Dyson with the creative direction of Jawara Wauchope. Using the Dyson Supersonic r professional hairdryer r, presented here for the first time: soft hairstyles that soften the face on one side and untamed volumes and asymmetries on the other. Hair was also styled in messy fishtail braids and sculpted chignons, all fixed to give character to the look.
The makeup, signed by Fenty Beauty, is mostly grungy and sensual, yet leaving room for nude looks to emphasize the various aspects of playfulness. A smokey eye playing with black and red tones, matte red lips, and natural, luminous skin complement the various runway looks: are you ready to let go and have some fun?
