The first fashion month of 2019 (except for the couture appointment of January) has finally begun and the kick-off fashion week, as always, was the New York one, where the F/W19 collections were displayed. In a triumph of colors, innovations, refined details and traditions, there were 5 collections that stole our hearts. While waiting to go to London for the next fashion week, don’t miss the best looks of this #NYFW!

RALPH LAUREN
_________
After the success of the brand’s 50th anniversary’s fashion show, held last September, Ralph Lauren for the fall/winter thought about a more intimate occasion, organizing a breakfast at Madison Avenue, made unforgettable by the models that walked between tables. Purity is the keyword of this collection, which encloses the iconic colors of the brand (especially white, blue and gold) and the comfortable and feminine forms typical of oversize outfits, light trousers and cocktail dresses. The minimalism and the refined silhouettes lead us on a journey through the past without being nostalgic, underlining once again the immortality and the versatile femininity that has always characterized the work of Ralph Lauren.

KHAITE
_________
The debut show of Khaite, founded just two years ago by Catherine Holstein, was a triumph of applause and positive reviews, both live and on social media. The most refined glamour was shown in a location set up as a park turned yellow by the fall, which recalled the nearby Central Park: the oversize sweaters, the dresses and suits with puff sleeves, the total denim or leather looks, the laced details and the minimal accessories (such as belts) witness a contemporary beauty that meets the needs of a modern woman without ignoring elegance, given by the large gown and the tulle inserts. The collection, entitled “The New Frontier,” is inspired by the American women of the 20th century, the suffragettes and the necessity of independence which is still very much contemporary: “Women need a voice that celebrates their strength and, as a consumer, I think it was missing before, especially here in America,” said Holstein. A hymn to the nation, to women, to the past and to the present that builds solid foundations for the future as well, marking the beginning of what it seems designated to be a successful road, both for the brand and the designer.

SIES MARJAN
_________
A black runway, decorated by 3 million of small Swarovski crystals, contrasts the vibrant colors of the looks designed by Sies Marjan for the next season. There is experimentation, research and respect for the path walked so far in the work of Sander Lak, who painted with a new nuance his love for the brand, giving life to a collection rich of colorful shades, silk petticoats, layered suits, leather inserts and decorative ruffles. “We used a lot of leather, and I hate it, I never liked it,” said Lak, “but I liked the idea of being able to fall in love with this fabric even if it’s something I wouldn’t spontaneously choose.” This inclusive vision of fashion is synonymous with maturity and willingness to change, a sign of a new vision created by Sies Marjan to face the future with full awareness of its potential and its recognizable style.

CAROLINA HERRERA
_________
Wes Gordon successfully continues his work as creative director of Carolina Herrera with this collection presented at the New York Historical Society. A palette of colors and motifs (from floral to monochrome, going through bright details and artistic decorations) gives to the brand a new freshness, without losing the femininity that has always outlined it. Structured and soft dresses, puff sleeves and suits with rigid cuts walked down the runway full of grace and with a lightness that recalls spring as if they wanted to emphasize the continuation of the warm season even in the colder months. Once again, Gordon was able to treasure Carolina Herrera’s teachings to illuminate his path, just like a sunbeam in the middle of winter.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA
_________
In a location set up as the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia initiated a journey, which through different styles and patterns, infused the soul of Oscar de la Renta with new internationality. To celebrate the variety that characterizes the concept of beauty, the designers thought about looks able to meet the tastes and needs of every woman: from sleeveless dresses to wide coats, from the abundance of details to the purest monochrome (orange, grey and burgundy above all), from tweed to brocade, from elaborate decorations (flowers, geometric motifs and transparencies) to simple outfits, Oscar de la Renta for the next season has in mind a cosmopolitan woman, aware of her personality and potentials, lover of tradition but with a will to dare, just like the creative duo, who knew how to balance all these aspects giving life to an innovative and genuine mix.
