When you think “Couture” you think about voluminous clothes, precious details, hours and hours of work carried out by hundreds of seamstresses, refined locations and looks able to create the purest wonder. Besides, the “Couture” is immediately associated with the city of Paris, where the Fédération Française De la Couture is based, and where is held every year one of the most magical fashion Weeks: the Haute Couture Fashion Week.
From July 1st to the 5th, Paris enriched its beauty with the Couture Fall 2018 collections, that have been shown in the French capital. During these days, we’ve seen true beauty, which was represented by exclusive creations revealed to the world. What were the top 5, the ones that best represented the spirit of the Haute Couture by giving life to such a dreamy outcome? Here you can find our “charmant choix”.

Dior
__________
An ode to dignity. With this collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri expresses all her devotion to the Maison Dior, starting from the location itself, the Musée Rodin, where was set up a wall with some white Dior dresses, the same composition that we saw at the exhibition dedicated to the 70 years of the Maison. The dresses are mostly monochrome, without eccentric details and in a gradation of colors that ranges from nude to black, but going through bright shades such as green and pink. Corsets, structured shapes, satin fabric, stars and veils are abundant. These works of art, in their simplicity, are designed for a modern gentlewoman, aware of her charm and strength, and perfect for this historical moment, when it is more necessary than ever to fight to conquer our place in the world.

Givenchy
__________
Clare Waight Keller played with the alternation between feminine and masculine looks, inspired by the past collections of Givenchy to realize this collection: the final result is a tribute to the founder Hubert de Givenchy, who passed away last March, at the age of 91. Strength and romance coexist in the designer’s creations, where dark tints predominate, although there is space for lighter shades such as white and gold, still as dear to the stylist as they were during her previous experience with Chloé. The dresses are extremely structured, almost rigid, and they give a solemn aura to the collection. There is, then, an abundance of precious details, capes, and sinuous lines to highlight the shapes and, more than anything else, the personality and the resilience of the woman who wears Givenchy.

Giambattista Valli
__________
A youthful Couture, that listens to the needs of modern customers and that includes “unusual” outfits? According to Giambattista Valli it is possible. He presented a collection with rock tones, versatile and still aligned with the spirit of the Maison. Short and sleeveless dresses, a great abundance of feathers and colors, veils covering the models’ faces, the insertion of motifs such as polka dots and structured shapes like those of the work suits, are alternated with fluffy tulle dresses, voluminous shapes that recall the Renaissance ones and the inevitable floral decoration that is so dear to the brand. Giambattista Valli was proof of how tradition and creativity can coexist in harmony, giving life to unexpected and, for this reason, spectacular looks.

Elie Saab
__________
The abundance of bright colors and elaborate decorations have always been winning elements of Elie Saab. The princely collections of the brand, ranging from voluminous dresses to adherents ones and going through suits, are only the basis of a world full of inspiration and attention to detail, that is characterized by a unique and timeless charm. The whole magic was made possible thanks to the contrasts between the colors of the dresses, nuances that recall the ones of a painting, regal capes and a great number of impressive elements such as transparencies, majestic tulle, lace and silk that make each look a real blaze of fantasy. Once again, Elie Saab has been able to rework its iconic elements to make them always modern, innovative and, above all, desirable.

Valentino
__________
Theatre reigns when it comes to the Haute Couture, especially in the collections of Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino. For the F/W 2018, the designer opted for the exaggeration, both in terms of voluminous dresses and of maxi hairstyles, taking inspiration from the ‘60s. With this fashion show, he praised the founder Valentino Garavani and the glory of the years of his first creations. Everything is like a big Deja-Vú, which is able to make us dream and amaze us with bright colors, satins, floral headdresses, decorated capes and majestic shapes sculpted by fabrics (especially silk and chiffon) and cuts inspired by both the historical archive of the brand and the paintings of the XVII and XVIII centuries. A mix created by the encounter between “Renaissance, Versailles and the ’60s,” as the stylist said, which opens the doors to the future while leaving a window open to the past.
