How to get the Renaissance-inspired makeup of Evan Rachel Wood.
On the occasion of the Emmy Awards 2018, we saw a lot of beautiful looks and makeups. Most of them would be just perfect for a party and we wish we could copy them ourselves, knowing their secret steps.
Evan Rachel Wood’s makeup, with the bold glossy lip and the dewy, fresh base, is perfect for a fall makeup, and it could turn every girl into a living renaissance painting — in her case, though, the feeling was made stronger by the classy updo with flowers pinned through her hair and by the long, black Altuzzarra dress.
By using Burt’s Bees natural products and finding in simplicity its most valued ally, this makeup by Toby Fleischman mixes sophistication, color and a few secrets for nailing the look, which she shared with us here.
Step by step, Toby revealed us the key products and steps to recreate the perfect Evan Rachel Wood Renaissance-inspired glowy makeup.

Inspiration
If there is anyone who has a unique perspective on beauty, it’s Evan Rachel Wood. She never takes it too seriously, always wants to play, and for a makeup artist, that’s the ultimate dream. Whether we are keeping the makeup clean and natural (like last year’s 2017 Emmy Awards look) or really going for something bolder, she always has her own take on beauty.
Evan’s black custom Altuzarra suit cape situation screamed for a bold lip. Our overall vibe for the beauty aesthetic was a reference to Renaissance paintings. Soft and romantic but with a stronger lip to really make a statement.

The Skin
Evan Rachel Wood MakeUp
To make it modern, I wanted her skin to be dewy and fresh.
I used Burt’s Bees Goodness glows liquid foundation in Natural Beige and then set only the T-zone in mattifying Powder Foundation in Vanilla by Burt’s Bees.
The Cheeks
Evan Rachel Wood MakeUp
I swirled the amazing All Aglow Cheek & Lip Sticks in Peach Pond & Suez Sands together to create a flushed glow on her cheeks. But one of my favorite products that I have been using on all my clients is the All Aglow Highlighter by Burt’s Bees in the shade Opal Mist. This stick gives just the right amount of highlight without it being too shimmery.
It picks up light perfectly on the tops of the cheekbones and in the inner corner of the eyes.
The Eyes
Evan Rachel Wood MakeUp
I blended a couple different shades of peaches and coppers on her eyes to create a soft, subtle burnt shade that one would find in a Renaissance painting.
I used shades from Urban Decay and Lime Crime.
The Lips
Evan Rachel Wood MakeUp
I wanted something that was of high impact and glossy and Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick in Wine Wave was just what the look called for.

Your Beauty Secret to Share
I only use translucent setting powder almost exclusively — only a light dusting to set liquids and creams and then to make powders blendable. But I try and keep it in the front of the face predominately, so that the outer edges of the face break through and you see the natural shine that adds dimension.
