2019 aka THE YEAR OF THE SEQUELS
Feel sad because a character died? Feel empty because you didn’t like the end? Feel broken because the lights are on and the end credits mean you have to leave the fantasy world? Don’t let all this upset you, movies CAN have sequels to bring you back together with your favorite characters and set the mood for a whole new chapter of the same adventure you thought was done. And this year is going to be great for saga-holics.
Down below, a list of the 5 most awaited movie sequels coming soon this year:
_____
2019 Sequels
“X-Men: Dark Phoenix”
_____
This brand new chapter of the “X-Men” saga is depicted by its brand new director Simon Kinberg as one of a kind, compared to the previous ones; “I see it as a new chapter, I see it as something that takes the franchise and leads it in a completely different direction with different tones,” says Kinberg himself . With Jessica Chastain (the shape-shifter alien) and Sophie Turner (Jean Grey) playing the lead roles, the movie about the most beloved mutants in the world is due to be released worldwide in June. This means that we’ll soon find out what Jean aka the Dark Phoenix will do with her new telepathic abilities and how these will affect the rest of the X-Men squad…

“Toy Story 4“
_____
Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera and Mark Nielsen (“Inside Out,” “Up”), Disney Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” opens in U.S. theaters on June 21st and about a week later in the European ones. Alongside the veterans Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, four new-entries give voice to the new characters of this chapter: Tony Hale, Keanu Reeves, Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key. About the plot of this fourth (and maybe last) chapter of the franchise, all we know is that a new toy is introduced, a fork named “Forky;” we know that Forky will certainly bring changes to the everyday life of Woody and co. and we also know that they will leave for a road trip together with a couple of new friends. June is coming, so we’re just a few months away from seeing what happens to them during their perhaps last adventure.

“Spider-man: Far from Home“
_____
Non-American fans, get ready to give a warm welcome to Peter Parker and his pals: in the “Homecoming” sequel, all characters will be very far from home, as the title suggests. Peter (Tom Holland) will go on a globe-spanning adventure and fight against one of his most troublesome enemies: Mysterio, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal. Directed by Jon Watts (once again behind the camera after “Spider-man: Homecoming”) and starring Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Samuel L. Jackson alongside the already mentioned Holland and Gyllenhaal, the movie will hit American and European theatres on the first week of July. We can’t wait to see our favorite web-slinger climbing up the walls of Venice, London, Prague and who knows where else!
_____

“Frozen 2“
_____
Set for release on November 2019, the sequel of one of Disney’s most successful animated movies in history is co-directed by the same masters who directed the original “Frozen,” Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck. We don’t know much about the plot, except that the story focuses on Elsa’s character and that there’s a new great hit taking the place of Oscar winner “Let it Go.” ‘Till we meet again, then, Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven!
_____
2019 Sequels
“Avengers: Endgame“
_____
After the acclaimed “Avengers: Infinity War,” Anthony and Joe Russo are back behind the camera, directing the fourth chapter of the franchise dedicated to the most powerful superheroes on planet Earth. This time, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, Spider-man, Black Panther and the other fellow superheroes will have to fight against powerful Thanos (Josh Brolin) and stop him from blowing up the whole Universe. Official reports confirmed that Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) will be back with an “armor of her own,” together with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), the other Wasp (Michelle Pfeiffer) and “13 Reasons Why” ‘s Katherine Langford is reported to be joining the cast in a mystery role. This promising fourth chapter hits European theatres on April 24th and American theatres on April 26th. We can’t wait, can we?

2019 Sequels
“It: Chapter 2“
_____
Scheduled to be released on September of this year, the second part of the 2017 “It” is once again adapted from the 1986 novel by Stephen King but set 27 years after the events of 1989 described in the first film. Bill Skarsgård is back in the costume of Pennywise, together with James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Finn Wolfhard and a new entry, Canadian director Xavier Dolan playing Adrian Mellon. Directed by Andy Muschetti, this very anticipated sequel is rumored to be showing one of the most upsetting death scenes in the whole book. But now, enough with the spoilers…let’s start our countdown!
_____
2019 Sequels
“Star Wars: Episode IX“
_____
Sad news for “Star Wars” fans: this ninth episode once again directed by J.J. Abrams will conclude the latest trilogy. Scheduled to be released on December 2019, the last episode of the saga will include a number of interesting celebrity cameos, the likes of chef Jamie Oliver and musician Ed Sheeran as First Order Stormtroopers. What we know so far about “Episode IX” is that it will be set one year after the events of its 2017 predecessor “Episode VIII: The Last Jedi” and that Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o will officially return, alongside new entries Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell. Let us hope we find out more in the next few months.
_____
2019 Sequels
“Kingsman 3“
_____
“Weirdly while we were writing ‘Kingsman 2,’ we were thinking of ‘Kingsman 3’ as well, which is odd. We’ve got a big idea for that” director Matthew Vaughn (“X-Men: First Class,” “Kick-Ass”) told Deadline about a year ago. While Taron Egerton has revealed that he won’t be in the third chapter of the James Bond-esque franchise, it’s pretty sure that Colin Firth will be back, together with Channing Tatum, Halle Berry and Jeff Bridges. We know from a director’s statement that the third Kingsman film will be “the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship” and that it will explore the origins of the Kingsman organization in the early 1900s. The movie will hit theatres no sooner than 2020, so more news about the plot will certainly come up over the year.

“Now You See Me 3“
_____
After 2016’s successful “Now You See Me 2,” Lionsgate announced that a third episode of the Four Horsemen’s adventures is currently being filmed and set to be released in 2019. We don’t know much about the plot yet, but the presence of British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (“Sherlock,” “The Imitation Game”) has been confirmed, alongside veterans Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco and Woody Harrelson, while Isla Fisher will not be reprising her role of Henley, which she didn’t do in the second installment, anyway. Let’s celebrate the gang’s reunion, then, and see what crazy tricks they have in store for us this time!

2019 Sequels
“Rambo 5: Last Blood“
_____
The fifth installment of the franchise wrapped filming a few months ago and it will be John Rambo’s last adventure. We’ll see our favorite Vietnam War veteran (Sylvester Stallone) suffering from severe PTS (post-traumatic syndrome), reuniting with Maria, an old friend of his who will help him with the farm, and dealing with the kidnapping of Maria’s daughter by drug cartels. Directed by Adrian Grunberg, written by Matt Cirulnick and Stallone himself, chapter 5 seems promising and its plot sounds more gripping than ever: it looks like Rambo is ready for another great adventure, set to hit theatres before the end of this year.
