Makeup is a mystery, a game, passion, love. Putting makeup on is a moment that can be shared with others and a way to freely express oneself.
This is exactly why makeup must be something that transforms, that adapts, a game of textures and feelings that leads us to build step by step a look and an allure that are unique and different for each and every one of us.
Hence, when we were invited by Chanel to discover “The New Eye Collection 2019,” we couldn’t but mirror ourselves into this feeling: impalpable textures that feel like a second skin, that blend with your own gaze and that can transform themselves with a game of intensity.
After all, what is there more intense than a gaze?! And Chanel wants to celebrate it with this collection that above all wants to adapt to the personality of every one of us. As a matter of fact, Lucia Pica, Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer of Chanel Beauty, stated, “I’m very interested in the concept of style and personality. I think that a woman shall appear sophisticated without excessive or out-of-date makeup.”
You will be able thereby to create a unique shade on your eyelids, with a touch of color, or to perfect the art of smokey eye, without the fear of playing with textures that are too strong. The shades are sophisticated but, at the same time, they allow us to play with colors that slowly grow more intense: we, therefore, find ourselves in front of a collection which consists of 4 eye-palettes, Les 4 Ombres, 5 new eye pencils Stylo Yeux Waterproof and the mascara Le Volume Révolution de Chanel in four new colors.
Four universal harmonies, four styles to dress your eye-look in the most personal and intuitive way possible, in the name of freedom. The elegant combinations of colors of every palette can be mixed and overlaid, combining and blending continuously, for an authentic “smokey” look, but always as if it was a “second skin.”
The palettes can be essentially declined in three adjectives: intuitive, modulable, blendable.
Three adjectives that perfectly describe them in between light and intense, simple and theatrical shades.
In this journey of ours, looking for a new way to do the Smokey-eye, we were joined by digital influencer and writer Silvia Caroline who interpreted the collection through her own eyes and personal hues and was able to give her personal touch to the Chanel brand. And to do all of this, we went to the marvelous Chanel Fragrance & Beauty Boutique in Milan, in the breathtaking location that is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
Following exactly the spirit of the collection, Silvia told us:
“When I put makeup on, the products I use must follow the morphology of my face and my skin type. For a product to work on us, it must be adaptable; otherwise, we risk getting the opposite result while persevering with the same mistake. I think of my makeup session as a ritual: it’s a moment totally devoted to my persona, it relaxes me very much, and it takes my mind off things, it sets my thoughts free, and I bring my creativity into my beauty looks that vary quite a lot, based on my mood of the day.”
With Silvia Caroline, we decided to create two looks: the first one is very soft, simple and made of warmer textures that could be the perfect companion for a day in the city, a breakfast-meeting but also for a night out when you want to shine with a simple look. We then transformed this look thanks to bolder hues, shades of green and a metallic touch, for a dreamy look that turns your gaze into the protagonist of your stories.
For each look, however, you need a base that must be the perfect match for your skin and in the summertime, there is no better base than the Chanel Les Beiges Eau De Teint. Also, in this case, we are talking about a product that feels like a second skin, that it’s moisturizing, which evens but does not cover the natural texture of our skin, which takes up its space without ever feeling suffocated: a cutting-edge product that has encapsulated the pigments in a super moisturizing solution.
After the base, the Chanel make-up artist began the day look with the 328 Blurry Mauve palette, and in particular, with the lighter shade, a nude applied over the entire eyelid and blended from the inner corner to the outer one.
______________
To give more definition to the eye instead, the brick red color was used on the outer corner and faded towards the center, always following the crease.
______________
To elongate the gaze, even more, a thin line was then drawn with the 943 Brun Agapé eye pencil, a luminous bronze that enhances the shape of the eye.
“I apply the eye pencil directly to the eyes and then, to create a slightly more lived-in and less geometric effect, I use a blending brush on top. When I use eye pencils, especially on the eyelids, I prefer a good, well-hydrated base reinforced with the primer.” – Silvia Caroline
Finally, always from the same palette, the intense dove-gray bronze color, with a satin finish, was applied to the lower outer lashline, but only up to half the eye. It was then moved towards the center, so as to achieve in general a beautiful second skin effect as if we could lose ourselves in the shadows of our own eyes and in those of this palette, a magic that only Chanel is capable of creating.
To finish up, le Volume Revolution de Chanel in Noir mascara.
A peachy nude shade was applied to the lips, with the Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in Émotive n.68, to always keep the focus on the eyes and give that second skin effect to the whole look.
THE DAY LOOK
For the second look, there was no need to remove any makeup: as we said at the beginning of this post, one of the greatest qualities of these palettes is being able to play with colors, layering them one above the other, thanks to their light and impalpable textures. Precisely for this reason, we then decided to play with the stronger and more playful colors of the 318 Blurry Green palette, a harmony of green and golden shades.
The makeup artist then intensified the lower lashline with the 948 Jungle Green Long-lasting eye pencil, an emerald green. The eye pencil was then blended towards the outside with the golden green satin eyeshadow of the palette, to give that blurry effect to the look, but with the power of color. The same shade was also applied to the eyelid, only in the outer corner, to make the gaze even more elongated and to blend perfectly with the red and warm colors previously used.
The same eye pencil was then applied to the upper lashline, to add definition to the section closest to the eyelashes and then to intensify even more the subtle nuance that had been created before with 943 Brun Agapé.
To give that final touch of green, the Volume Revolution de Chanel 17 Jungle Green mascara was applied to the upper and lower lashes, for an even more intense game on the gaze, a surprising but at the same time sophisticated effect.
“Le Révolution De Chanel mascara is very intriguing, starting from its packaging, a revolution in makeup. The makeup revolution wants to satisfy and follow the needs of every single individual: in this case, more shades of color for our eyelashes, a specially created mascara brush with vitamins that reinforce the lashes and then… extreme, immediate volume!” – Silvia Caroline
On the lips, it was applied a more intense coral tone that goes perfectly with the green and emerald tones of the eyes, with the Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in La Favorite n.43.
THE BLURRY GREEN LOOK
“I consider the gaze an emotion in itself. The gaze for me perfectly frames the person. Through a look, you can experience certain feelings and emotions. The gaze transmits the way of being of the individual. Makeup can emphasize this very important detail even more.”
