Who: Mary Stuart.
Played By: Adelaide Kane.
TV series: “Reign.”
Episode: 1×13
Designer: Monique Lhuillier.
Why We Like It: Despite her marriage to Francis did not end with an “And they lived happily ever after,” Mary Stuart enchanted everyone with this richly elaborate dress from Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2012 Collection. Meredith Markworth-Pollack, the costume designer of the series, revealed that as soon as she saw this dress she immediately realized that it would have been the chosen one: “We wanted something regal, beautiful but elegant at the same time,” she said. The embroidered details and the wide use of lace, combined with the precious jewels and the refined hairstyle, make this dress a daydream. Long may it reign in the ranking of the most beautiful ever seen on the small screen!
Who: Blair Waldorf.
Played By: Leighton Meester.
TV series: “Gossip Girl.”
Episode: 6×10
Designer: Elie Saab.
Why We Like It: Scandal is definitely one of the main ingredients when we talk about Chuck and Blair, and of course, the dress worn by her for their hasty marriage in Central Park had to be outrageous, at least in its similarities to another scandalous ceremony! Eric Daman, costume designer of the series, revealed the reasons why he chose this dress from the Spring 2012 Couture Collection by Elie Saab: “When I saw it, I immediately thought it was perfect for Blair, because it had to make some references to the glamour of the past while respecting the contemporary haute couture standards. To combine these two needs, we opted for a dress with blue shades: I adore them, they remind me of the wedding dress worn by Wallis Simpson during his outrageous marriage to the Duke of Windsor.” We have the scandal and a beloved couple from the TV series as well… Then the Gossip (Girl) is assured! XOXO
Who: Charlotte York.
Played By: Kristin Davis.
TV series: “Sex and the City.”
Episode: 6×08
Designer: Badgley Mischka.
Why We Like It: This silk dress clearly represents the sweetness and romance of Charlotte who, after a long search (and a failed marriage) for the perfect man, marries the imperfect Harry Goldenblatt with a Jewish ceremony in the synagogue. Speaking about Judaism, when the event planner Anthony sees her wearing the dress, he exclaims: “You look like Audrey Hepburn… Owitz!”, combining by this way the classic style of the dress with the Jewish origins of Harry. Despite the unintentionally spilled wine on the gown during the ceremony, and the fall of Charlotte at the exit of the synagogue caused by the beads of Samantha’s broken bracelet, we could not agree more with Carrie‘s words: “The worse the wedding, the better the marriage!”
Who: Temperance Brennan.
Played By: Emily Deschanel.
TV series: “Bones.”
Episode: 9×06
Designer: Romona Keveza.
Why We Like It: It took eight years and several ups and downs to see Temperance and Seely getting married! The actress Emily Deschanel had to choose the dress between five options in less than twenty minutes, according to the “Tv Guide,” opting in the end for a dress from the Spring 2013 Collection by Romona Keveza: the lace bodice, the neckline on the shoulders and the absence of veil made Temperance a sophisticated and surprising bride! Nobody expected a similar choice from the rational and unemotional Brennan, but the actress gave a valid motivation to her choice: “In the previous episode to the one of the marriage, Temperance showed to Angela (the Maid of Honor) the picture of a wedding dress taken from a newspaper when she was 8 years old. The dress had to be similar to the one that the young Temperance would have chosen before knowing death both personally and professionally. Despite her life has changed a lot, she still persists in this dream and I think it’s beautiful!”
Who: Jane Villanueva.
Played By: Gina Rodriguez.
TV series: “Jane the Virgin.”
Episode: 2×22
Designer: Aria.
Why We Like It: Despite the complications experienced by Jane in the 24 hours before the wedding, the ceremony could not have been sweeter, starting with the loving looks that Jane addresses to her beloved Michael. It’s hard to hold back the tears in front of such a beautiful moment (Can we talk about Michael pronouncing his votes in Spanish?), especially by being aware of all that Jane and her family have had to face. The icing on the cake is the wedding gown worn by Jane: the lace sleeves, the tulle skirt, and the long veil, make her the perfect traditional bride, making her even more radiant thanks to the accessory that makes every bride unique and special: the smile that they give to their beloved one.
Who: Monica Geller.
Played By: Courteney Cox.
TV series: “Friends.”
Episode: 7×24
Designer: House of Bianchi.
Why We Like It: When you say that the dress mirrors the person wearing it, we think immediately of the dress worn by Monica for her wedding with Chandler: simple, clear and elegant, just like Monica. Here is what Debra McGuire, costume designer of the series, revealed about this choice, “Monica’s gown was a blow to me because I really wanted to draw it personally, but there was no time. Besides, the girls hated fitting (…) they preferred to buy clothes in the shops to simplify the process. Courtney tried my wedding dress, but I couldn’t close it. So I took it off and moved on to the reserves. I had a couple of them, and one of these, once she tried it, looked beautiful on her. Courtney exclaimed: ‘It’s perfect!’ and I said: ‘Shit.’ (….) It was a hard blow not being able to use my dress.“
Who: Margaery Tyrell.
Played by: Natalie Dormer.
TV series: “Game of Thrones.”
Episode: 4X02
Designer: Michele Clapton (Costume designer of the series).
Why We Like It: From Highgarden to the wedding dress of Margaery, the roses are definitely protagonists when we talk about the House Tyrell: for her marriage with Joffrey (an adorable boy, don’t you think?), the beautiful Margaery opted for a tight dress with a cascade of roses and a wide neckline on the back, with a weave of barbed branches that decorate the front. The colors gray and blue, so loved by Margaery, are the dominant shades even during her most beautiful day… Beautiful for us at least, since it ended with the long-awaited death of Joffrey!
Who: Lady Mary Crawley.
Played by: Michelle Dockery.
TV series: “Downton Abbey.”
Episode: 3X01
Designer: Caroline McCall (Costume designer of the series).
Why We Like It: How beautiful was the marriage between Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley? Simply unforgettable! Of course, Lady Mary could not have been more perfect for her big day: the cream long-sleeved silk dress, enriched with pearls and Swarovski details, was entirely handmade and, according to the costume designer Caroline McCall, it cost more than 4000 pounds, the most expensive ever made for this British TV series. The look is completed by a long vintage veil and a diamond tiara worth over 200,000 pounds, made to measure by Bentley & Skinner. “I wanted her look to be extremely romantic and elegant,” said the costume designer: we think that she perfectly succeed in her intents, didn’t she?
Who: Fran Fine.
Played By: Fran Drescher.
TV series: “The Nanny.”
Episode: 5×23
Why We Like It: We already knew that Fran is a fashion icon of the small screen, and this was also confirmed on the day of her wedding to Max (raise your hand if you have exulted watching this moment!), opting for a princely gown worth 12,000 dollars! Richly decorated also on the sleeves, with a large skirt with details in ivory lace and completed with an almost 5 meters long veil, the dress of Fran made a whole generation dreaming. We do not exaggerate in saying that she could be considered the Lady Diana of the small screen after seeing her wedding dress…
Who: Elizabeth II.
Played by: Claire Foy.
TV series: “The Crown.”
Designer: Michele Clapton (Costume designer of the series).
Episode: 1×01
Why We Like It: It is the most expensive TV series ever made with its 130 million dollars of production, and a good slice of this budget is represented by the wedding dress worn by Claire Foy, rated 30,000 pounds. It took 7 weeks of work but the final result is extraordinary, as it is a faithful replica of the dress worn by Queen Elizabeth II for her wedding with Prince Philip in 1947. The original, in ivory-colored silk, was designed by the royal couturier Norman Hartnell and it required 6 months of work: the silk was imported from China and, among the precious details, there were 10,000 American pearls. The wedding scene took 5 days of filming, not an easy time for Claire Foy considering the high weight of the dress!
Who: Rebecca Pearson.
Played By: Mandy Moore.
TV series: “This Is Us.”
Episode: 1×14
Why We Like It: “This is Us” is the TV series that makes us cry all the time, both for desperation and joy and among the most joyous moments we find the civil marriage between Rebecca and Jack Pearson. The dress chosen by the actress, with the help of the costume designer Hala Bahmet, is a vintage bohemian piece richly decorated, that was combined with a sweet flowers’ crown. “We had 3 vintage dresses to choose from,” said Hala Bahmet, and Mandy Moore liked it so much that she would love to wear one like this for her true marriage: “I know I have already had my occasion (she married Ryan Adams in 2009), but I was not wearing a wedding dress, so maybe I could do it if I ever had to remarry one day (…) Wearing a dress like this during the episode made me change my mind about wearing a wedding dress, it made me think I should put it for real now.”
Who: Robin Scherbatsky.
Played By: Cobie Smulders.
TV series: “How I Met Your Mother.”
Episode: 7×24
Designer: Monique Lhuillier.
Why We Like It: Someone liked them, someone not, anyway even Robin and Barney managed to walk down the aisle! The dress worn by Robin is adherent, it has veiled sleeves and an half-mermaid silk skirt, while the other half is in tulle, and it is accessorized with a rhinestone belt that gives the right touch of light. Reiko Kurumada, costume designer of the series, described the choice of the dress: “The reason why we chose it is that the director Pam Fryman wanted to reveal that the bride was Robin through a close-up, and many bridal gowns are strapless. I didn’t want Robin to look naked in the close-up. I wanted a dress with nice details on the shoulders and arms. Monique Lhuillier was kind enough to send us some dress to examine: when Cobie tried this, we both knew it was the winner.”
